The Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows Official FAQ

Updated: 2-17-05 --- 26 Total Questions

11.) Q: How do I update the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows myself (such as virus defs and other things)?
A: For an updated guide just for AV definitions and such, look HERE.

From stidyup:

There are 3 ways to do it.

The 1st way is to build the entire ISO from scratch using PEBuilder, after you have updated the plugins folder with the latest Anti-Virus definitions or program updates.

It you wish to add any new programs (plugins) to the UBCD 4 Windows THIS IS THE ONLY way to do it, this is because the information in the .inf file needs to be added during the initial build process and can’t be added afterwards.

Burn to CD.

The 2nd way and the fastest, is to leave the pebldr folder on the C drive (if this is your location) after PE builder has finished creating the ISO.

Download and update stinger and AntiVir by putting the update files in the relevant programs folder.

For this to work you will need the following tool, download pebldr update, once you have updated the appropriate folders run this UpdateWUBCD.cmd and this will create you a new ISO here C:\updated.iso.  This assumes that pebldr is located C:\pebldr if this has been placed in a different directory you will need to edit UpdateWUBCD.cmd in notepad accordingly.

Burn to CD.

The 3rd way download
update.zip

Create a folder on C called wubcd

Copy all files off the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows into c:\wubcd

Download and update stinger and AntiVir by putting the update files in the relevant programs folder.

Then double click UpdateWUBCD.cmd (NOTE this is a different file to the pebldr file above)

This will create a iso file located C:\updated.ISO

Then burn to CD.

12.) Q: Can anyone suggest a way to fix this creation error?

Building ISO image
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\pebuilder3032\mkisofs.exe -iso-level 4 -volid "UBCD4Win" -A PEBUILDER/MKISOFS -sysid "Win32" -b bootsect.bin -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -hide bootsect.bin -hide boot.catalog -o "c:\temp\winubcd11.iso" "c:\pebldr"
Execute "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\pebuilder3032\mkisofs.exe -iso-level 4 -volid "UBCD4Win" -A PEBUILDER/MKISOFS -sysid "Win32" -b bootsect.bin -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -hide bootsect.bin -hide boot.catalog -o "c:\temp\winubcd11.iso" "c:\pebldr""
Error: CreateProcess("C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\pebuilder3032\mkisofs.exe -iso-level 4 -volid "UBCD4Win" -A PEBUILDER/MKISOFS -sysid "Win32" -b bootsect.bin -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -hide bootsect.bin -hide boot.catalog -o "c:\temp\winubcd11.iso" "c:\pebldr"") failed.
ISO image "c:\temp\winubcd11.iso" created.
Build process done...
There where 1 errors and 0 warnings
Use the [<<] and [>>] buttons to jump to error/warning.
Because of the errors the ISO image is not generated!

EDIT- I figured it out myself, I had the program running from the desktop and I forgot dos has a limit on the number of characters in a command!

A: The updated fool-proof guide at creating the CD without errors is located HERE.

Glad you got it figured out. smile.gif I was just going to suggest that you try putting the pebuilder folder on the root drive.

Also, the other known bug is to first create the temp directory as if it's not there, it wont work. Hopefully these will be resolved sometime. smile.gif

13.) Q: I see that a few people who don't own XP have been asking for fully working CD.

What would the chances be of M$ allowing you to sell a fully functioning licensed UBCD 4 Windows on say a subscription basis allowing people to download it for say a year?

Or maybe just let everyone download a fully made ISO to begin with? biggrin.gif
A: From LittlBUGer:

For one, I highly doubt Microsoft will do that, let alone talk to us little peons in their world...
Fot two, that would probably costs loads of money that we definitely do not have. We are having a little trouble just keeping the site and download up due to all the bandwidth, nonetheless trying to keep MS happy about licensed things.

If we could somehow strike a frickin awesome deal with Microsoft and they were serious about it, then it MAY be a possibility, but I highly doubt that will happen. Plus, the way it is now, we aren't liable for anything bad that a person may do with that licensed software (since right now they use their own copy) and it also keeps the download much smaller and out bandwidth requirements much easier to meet and keep up. I know that putting out a copy would make several people's lives easier and happier since they wouldn't have to do anything to get this to work, but as of now, this is all we can do. :-\

14.) Q: I keep getting creation errors or bad ISOs when using AutoStreamer. What's wrong?
A: Well, there could be several things going on, but here are a few suggestions and known bugs to consider:

  • Try copying your OS CD to a folder on your HD first and then point AutoStreamer there.

  • Try using folder names without any spaces.

  • If your SP is on a CD, try copying it to a folder on your HD first and then point AutoStreamer there.

  • Try re-downloading the SP with a download manager so that you know you have a good non-corrupted download.

  • If you are trying to slipstream (for example) SP2 into a XP SP1 CD, try getting a hold of a regular XP CD (without SP1) to get a cleaner slipstream.

-BUG (confirmed with version 1.0.30 and lower): You CANNOT use AutoStreamer to slipstream a certain OS and SP on a different OS---meaning, for example, that you can't slipstream SP2 into a XP SP1 CD on a Windows 2000 machine. It will not work and there is no known workaround (yet). If you don't have access to a machine with the same OS that you are trying to slipstream, then I'm sorry, but you are out of luck with this program. Though we do not support or endorse it, you can try *restricted project name, please email Ben for support* to slipstream your OS and SP (among other things). smile.gif
